Statement on the Passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka

We are deeply saddened by the tragic and sudden death of President Richard Trumka. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and the millions of working people he stood shoulder to shoulder with during his lifetime of service to the labor movement.

We have lost a tireless advocate and fierce champion for working people. His selfless dedication to the labor movement, especially his devotion to the more than 12.5 million members of the AFL-CIO, has left a legacy that won’t soon be forgotten. From workplace safety to workers’ rights to defending our democracy, President Trumka modeled solidarity and unfailing leadership.

We commit to following in President Trumka’s footsteps by joining together with working people across race and place to build a powerful people-led movement to make this nation a place where everyone can live and work with dignity.
