Remembering RBG
Liz Watson, the Executive Director of the Progressive Caucus Action Fund, issued the following statement on the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:
“We are devastated by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, a fearless champion for justice and a trailblazer for equality. Our thoughts are with her family and friends, and the millions of people whose life, dignity, and freedom depend on a Supreme Court where justice can prevail.
Justice Ginsberg changed the course of history. She broke down barriers first as a law student, then as the co-founder of the Women’s Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union, then with her brilliant strategy to ensure that the courts recognized gender equality under the law, and then as the second woman and the first Jewish woman to ever be confirmed to the Supreme Court.
Her dissents, she said, were written for the future when more justice and equality were possible. As we mourn her, we will fight to bring that future she envisioned into being. For every person who is feeling fearful or hopeless today, we must take courage from Justice Ginsberg’s example. Together, we will fight for the integrity of our democratic institutions and the essential dignity of every person.”
